Maybe we could even manage to meet up in small groups here and there to discuss things of an evening. If we are going to do this it would be far more fun to do this right. Is there some way we could organise a group of rooms or apartments - preferably allowing the possibility for cheap (ish) accommodation for those younger (or poorer - like me!) - preferably with a space to meet. Many more things can be discussed, learned and developed outside of the formal lecture hall. This could inform the Thursday session and clear up a very great deal of the underlying issues before they ground out in public.<br class=""><br class="">Given this is big city - I would vote for an area with possibilities to go out and eat, dance and be merry. On the other hand it would be a pleasure to cook for a group one evening (for example) - especially if there were access to a proper kind of fire.<br class=""><br class="">We should, at least, try to make an effort to be in the same general neighbourhood so that there is a chance of getting together in the evenings or before/after the conference.<br class=""><br class="">Anyone local (or local-ish who at least knows the sorts of possibilities in California) who could suggest something? They will not be able to read all of the email exchanges and extract the necessary (and filter out the unnecessary) comments of the group. They will need pointed inputs. I have volunteered to help them get started.
