Hello Richard,

you are right that inertia and momentum are related to each other. The 
relation is that inertia is the cause of momentum, without inertia in 
our world there would be no momentum in our world.

Mathematically spoken: momentum = mass * vector_of_motion. The vector_of 
motion is a vector, so the product "momentum" is a vector. An 
explanation of momentum needs the explanation of mass as a precondition. 
Not the other way around.

Inertial mass can in fact be explained if one accepts that an extended 
object necessarily has inertia. And as the electron has to be extended 
(in order to have angular momentum and magnetic moment) it has inertial 
mass just from this reason. And I like to repeat: the assumption that an 
extended object has inertia is not only an idea but can be deduced 
quantitatively with precise results without the use of any free 
parameters which had to be adjusted.
