1.    CTF (Complex Tension Field): I have deliberately used a multi-word phrase to underscore its inherent physical properties to minimize misinterpretations and confusions as to what I mean by CTF. CTF concept is an evolution of the very ancient concept “ether” (“aether”, etc.), whose interpretations kept on changing with time creating only confusions, not resolutions. In my view point, CTF holds the 100% of the cosmic energy. Everything observable/measurable by intelligent biological assemblies of atoms (from the viruses to the humans), including themselves, are just interactions between different kinds of assemblies of oscillations of the CTF, including EM waves. Electromagnetic wave excitations perpetually move with a velocity “c”. However, localized self-looped oscillations (particles) stay put in one place until it experiences some interacting potential gradient (“curvature”) in its vicinity. [This particle model resolves the absence of “ether drag” problem.] All forces are various forms of potential gradients generated in the CTF due to various kinds of excitations of the CTF. This is why the CTF concept is definitely one possible approach to develop a unified field theory, which Einstein told us to keep trying.

    Broadly speaking, the “Ether” concept (that deep space has some physical property in various forms), goes back probably two thousand years or more in the West; and, at least six thousand years in the East. However, the concept was better articulated in scientific language in the West, rather than as philosophy, as it were in the East.

     Both Newton and Huygens accepted “ether”. But, it was Huygens who “implied” it as a “tension field” by describing the propagation of light as a wave undulation of a tension field. No wave-excitation can travel with a constant speed unless the “medium” holds some form of a tension field that perpetually pushes away any perturbation imposed on it, as far as the “uniform tension field” exists. The tension field’s inherent tendency at any point is to restore its original state of equilibrium under perpetual tension. The spatially finite size of the excitation of the CTF gets pushed on and on with the velocity “c”. However, the delivered perturbation energy, that generated the local “deformation” of the  CTF, still resides as a part of the CTF energy. The wave is an excited state of the CTF; it has no independent existence. The CTF cannot assimilate (absorb) the perturbation energy. This is the root cause of Conservation of Energy. That is why CTF pushes away the deforming energy to regain its spatially-local equilibrium state. That is wave propagation. The “wave” could be a finite “hump”, or a group of time-finite and space-extant harmonic oscillations like laser pulses. This wave-propagation propensity is correctly embedded in our wave equation. Undergraduate derivation of string-wave equation under mechanical tension, is an excellent example. [All orderly cosmic rules of engagement (interactions) arise causally out of this Conservation of Energy in different ways under different contexts. There are no “laws” that human intellect can impose on nature.]

So, to differentiate your “plenum” from the “CTF”, you should define “Plenum” explicitly. We must try out many different models to visualize the same invisible Cosmic Elephant.

Did you do the Rb-beam experiment?
I suggest the key purpose of physics (science) is to understand (predict outcomes of events) and to have the wisdom (ability to cause events) to use the understanding. QM without a causal or visualize-able model can serve this purpose. But causal is better and more likely to yield wisdom.
[There must well-defined and clear, short-term and very-long-term, purposes behind all human activities congruent with our evolution. Human knowledge gathering activities must follow the evolution process congruency along with the long-term sustainability of our biosphere, in our minds. Nihilistic intellectualism has always been nurtured and supported by Tribal Leaders since ancient times to assure their socio-political control over the masses. Since none of us know everything about the past and the future of the cosmic evolution; we must keep ourselves anchored to nature by constantly trying to appreciate the physical interaction processes in nature, which are behind both the biospheric and the cosmo-spheric evolutions. No wisdom is the final wisdom. No theory is the final theory. They must be proactively allowed to evolve. ]

Note that the STOE model also does not have zeros in the interference part of the double-slit pattern. However, in the experiment of Fig. 6 of vixra 1509.0107 "Light diffraction experiments that confirm the STOE model (a force of interaction model) and reject all other models" that with $a_1 >>a_2$ (even if one of the cos coefficients =0 ) the interference fringes are still visible.
[I am sorry. My view is that the Human scientific thinking processes, and projected theories, are not yet matured enough to declare the rejection of “all other models”!]

I have thought that your CTF is similar to my "plenum". My current attention is to identify spectrograph and polarizing (later reflection and refraction) behavior. So:

The equations used are solutions of the wave equation. They are wave equations. But this implies there must be some action to keep the wave oscillation through the zero point. In media such as strings and water this is the property of inertia. Without the property of inertia, the CTF fails to present a "wave" (solution to the wave equation). This seems to imply the Fourier monochromatic wave through the kinetic energy and as a solution of the wave equation DOES obey the principle of conservation of energy. So, the Dirac's statement that photons interfere only with itself is partly correct. This can be modified to photons interfere with itself and with others that have an equal energy (frequency). Experimentally, single photon diffraction has been observed. Entanglement is a frequency resonance effect if the CTF wave can travel very much faster than light. I note your view of gravitation and the inertia in the CTF could derive the Equivalence Principle, which would require monochromatic wave to conserve energy.
[Sorry. Too many questions. I will answer only partly.
Correct human invented mathematical logics (correct equations) never can capture all there is to know about nature. Dirac went beyond his expertise to make comment about “interference”. He did not even specify that the linear Superposition Principle, while it is a correct mathematical starting platform; it does not represent a measurable phenomenon of nature. It is the non-linear quadratic (square modulus) of the sum of all the joint linear excitations imposed on the same detecting entity, which represent a measurable physical effect. Creating operating logic out of an un-measurable mathematical equation, will always remain as a correct mathematical theorem only. This kinds of assertions would not be very useful to promote our deeper knowledge, or sustainable evolution, which is our ultimate goal. It will only be a wasteful intellectual diversion, however pleasurable that might be.]

The $\Psi$ of QM is a "physical dipolar undulation amplitude" - a real wave. If $\Psi$ is propagating forward in space and time, what is $Psi^*$?
[Unlike the prevailing interpretation of the QM-psi as a plane wave; I consider the particles as inherently localized self-looped harmonic oscillations. Different excitations can excite different kinds of internal oscillations.
     Further, this energy conserving universe cannot generate Fourier monochromatic plane waves as they would require infinite amount of energy. So, developing theories using infinite monochromatic Fourier modes will naturally generate different kinds of “divergences” from realities depending upon the phenomenon being modeled. Mathematically brilliant re-normalizing techniques will not help us reveal the real interaction processes, which nature executes to carry on the biospheric and the cosmo-spheric evolutions.

Our core goal behind science and engineering should be anchored to understanding the evolutionary processes in nature and then apply them to assure that our progenies can continue living for an indefinite amount of time (on earth now, and on other planets in other stars in deep future). We, the blinds, need an indefinite amount of  time to fathom the magnificent creativities and the purposes behind the “living” Cosmic Elephant. Our successful evolution has to be a collective endeavor!
