Dear Chandra,

You could not be more right!

I, for one, thoroughly enjoy your Sunday sermons. Please keep them coming!

I also enjoyed the recent exchange between you and Chip - on which I have a lot to say and, unfortunately, as is to true even now in the early hours of a Monday morning, pressing, but otherwise completely meaningless work, as it stands to effect only me. University administrative work. This has already cost myself and a colleague a good eighty hours of work last week (each) - and promises to absorb much more. Work on it will take up most of my day today, even starting as early as I do (its before 4am in Scotland).

Haven't even started on the Christmas shopping or card-writing yet.

Would love to join in further here, but simply have not got the time.

So here goes everyone ...

Regards and greetings of the season at the end of the old and the beginning of the new year.

It has been a pleasure working with those of you I have known for many years and have come in with me, and those I have met for the first time on this forum during the year of light.

Ladies and gentlemen, it has been a real pleasure!

John Williamson.

"If rivers flowed with milk, a lot of world hunger problems would be solved, ...."

Friends: I could not resist adding another Sunday sermon!

“If rivers flowed with milk,…”, then the top 1% tribal leaders, as they have been doing for many millennia, would have taken complete control of the banks of all such milk-rivers.

Population explosion is driven more from the evolutionary and economic pressures – survive with the aid of child labors in various forms and old-age support from grown up children. India still has that strong culture. By getting under increasing economic stress today, the West is beginning to develop the culture of “extended economic family” in a slightly different form.

Let us not forget that historically, it has been the less developed countries (with less food for the down trodden population) who have been showing higher birth rates! To become richer and richer, the top 1% needs more and more low-salaried population. That is why the relative salary value of the US population is being systematically lowered for the last forty years. In the sixties, a MacDonald Hamburger worker was earning a living wage, along with medical insurance. Today, such workers survive only by utilizing their Government issued food-stamps and Government paid MedicAid. Notice also that, in USA, all forms of worker’s unions are being systematically destroyed; while systematically strengthening the police unions and equipping them with all possible military gears across the nation. Their salary is also significantly boosted by ample over-time services. They must be kept very happy.

Milk rivers would always be kept out of access from the starving people under the current economic paradigm. Healthy and wealthy people historically have been producing fewer off-springs!

Chandra.

Hi:

More or less! Also: stupid ideas grow exponentially! Maybe even ex/exponentially: exp(exp(k x t))! Seriously, doesn't matter what the rate is: finite is finite.

ciao, Al

Hi Al,
Sounds like you’re a malthusian, with population growing geometrically while food supply only grows linearly.

Really?? Isn't it much more likely that this would lead to a population explosion, and then even vastly greater hunger?

So, maybe this theory (of well-being) suffers some of the same implicit circularity of many proposed "solutions of the universe" in physics!

Just a random Sunday thought! Al
